Party for the Planet Day Five: Turn off the Lights

Apr. 26th | Posted by 0 comments

Thanks for helping conserve the planet this week, explorers! I hope you carry what you’ve learned into the next week … and the week after that … and the month after that … and for years to come! If we all work together and make smart choices, we can prove just how big of a difference conservation can make!

Get Outside: Go Camping

There’s no better way to enjoy the outdoors than leaving the loud, hustling city behind for a peaceful escape in nature. Unplug your electronics and treat yourself to a camping trip. You won’t even miss having lights to flick on and off when you can gaze at the whole night’s sky! Spring is perfect for a camping trip, so grab some family and friends and get out there. If you live in Texas, visit Texas Parks and Wildlife’s website for camping tips and to find a campsite.

Recycling Activity: Crayon Candle

I’m grateful to live in a time when we have electricity and lights in our houses, but there’s nothing wrong with using an old-fashioned candle for light. Even better is a candle that is made of recycled materials! Gather some old crayons and click here for instructions on how to make your own crayon candle.

Coloring Sheet: Lights Out Owl

Click here to download a fun coloring sheet from Earth Day Shirts that features an owl that knows it’s important to conserve electricity.

Until next time … happy exploring!
